SETAC Europe 2024: PBMS studies will be presented in Seville, Spain

The PBMS team will present their studies at the 34th annual meeting of SETAC (Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry) Europe, which will be held from the 4th to the 9th of May 2024 in Seville, Spain.

 

- Lee Walker will present a study on “Contamination of Second Generation Anticoagulant Rodenticides in the Eurasian Sparrowhawk and Assessment of Population Level Effects in the UK” in the session “Environmental Policy, Risk Management and Science Communication” on Wednesday, the 8th of May. Elaine Potter and Gloria Pereira are co-authors of this presentation.

- Shinji Ozaki will present a poster on a study, “Biomonitoring of metals and second-generation anticoagulant rodenticides at the pan-European scale from 1996 to 2021 with wild Common Buzzards (Buteo buteo)” on Wednesday, the 8th of May. This study was carried out as part of the Life APEX project (https://lifeapex.eu/). Elaine Potter, Gloria Pereira, Jacky Chaplow, Beverley Dodd, and Lee Walker are co-authors of this presentation.  

Moreover, there are three other poster presentations which PBMS members are involved in as co-authors.

Paola Movalli, a collaborator affiliated with the Naturalis Biodiversity Center in Leiden, Netherlands, will present a poster on a study as part of the Life APEX project, “Time trends (1996-2021) in PCB and PBDE congeners and in ΣPCBs and ΣPBDEs residue concentrations in the common buzzard Buteo buteo in 11 European countries in relation to restrictions on chemicals use” on Wednesday, the 8th of May. The PBMS contributed to the study by providing scientific support. Shinji Ozaki and Lee Walker are co-authors of this presentation.

Holly Elizabeth Hulme from the University of Cardiff will present a poster on a study on “Using the Otter and Buzzard as Sentinels for the Assessment of Spatial and Temporal Trends in Synthetic Chemical Pollution between Contiguous Aquatic and Terrestrial Environments” on Monday, the 6th of May. The PBMS contributed to the study by providing scientific support. Gloria Pereira and Lee Walker are co-authors of this presentation.

Finally, Suzane Qassim from Natural England will present a poster on a study on “Challenges and Opportunities of Building a Collaborative Chemicals Biomonitoring Framework Today, for the Chemicals of Tomorrow” on Monday, the 6th of May. From the PBMS members, Gloria Pereira, Jacky Chaplow, Shinji Ozaki and Lee Walker are mentioned as co-authors of this presentation.

 

The two first posters, of which the PBMS member is the lead author, will be published on the PBMS website over the next few weeks after the conference.
