PBMS and Natural England workshop to discuss monitoring of pollutants in the terrestrial environment

Natural England (NE) is a key funding partner of UKCEH’s Predatory Bird Monitoring Scheme (PBMS) having supported the scheme since the early 2000s.

Natural England leads on terrestrial chemical monitoring to address the UK Governments 25-Year Environment Improvement Plan. Natural England shares a wide range of research interests with UKCEH, researchers working for the PBMS and UKCEH’s Pollution science area.

As part of ongoing collaborative work, the PBMS team, accompanied by UKCEH Pollution Science Area Head Claus Svendsen, met with members of the NE Ecotoxicology team to discuss current and future research priorities. This could be managed through short-term, annual, and multiple year projects that contribute to longer term goals to improve the ability of UK government and the wider research community to assess and monitor chemical risk to wildlife and our shared environment.
