A new paper has been published as an output of the EU LIfe Apex project involving analysis of samples provided the PBMS and colleagues in the WILDCOMS network (Cardiff Otter Project and the UK Cetacean Strandings Investigation Programme). 

The paper highlights inlcude:

  • 67 apex predator and prey samples from four European countries were analyzed;
  • >2,200 contaminants were screened through LC-HRMS wide-scope target analysis;
  • Quantitative results are provided for 145 contaminants from various chemical classes;
  • Pharmaceuticals, PFAS and Plant Protection Products were ubiquitous in the samples;
  • Data suitable to prioritize chemicals for PBT assessment and evaluate mitigation measures
