The PBMS has published two reports on wildlife exposure to contaminants.
The report, ‘Second Generation Anticoagulant Rodenticides (SGARs) in Mammals and Predatory Birds’ reviews SGAR residues in the liver of various mammals and predatory birds collected in Great Britain (GB). The detection and magnitude of SGAR residues were compared across different species and diets, and the temporal changes in SGAR exposure of the animals were assessed in the study. The other report, ‘Metals and their relationship to measures of physiological stress in common buzzards (Buteo buteo) and sparrowhawks (Accipiter nisus)’ demonstrates our study on the variations in the accumulation of metal in the liver of two species, buzzards and sparrowhawks, from GB. The study also focused on the relationship between liver metal concentrations and the health status of birds.
These reports provide recent exposure patterns of wildlife exposure to organic and non-organic contaminants, respectively, in the GB.
